January 10, 2012 Monthly Membership Meeting: 2011 Future of Quality

Due to our exceptional retention rate over the past year, our section earned the honor of a distinguished visitor, Mr. Jim Rooney, ASQ Chairman of the Board of Directors, 2011 -2012. We cannot say how fortunate that our section was honored with his presence, company and enlightenment. It was very refreshing for our members to be able to socialize with Jim, a committed visionary ASQ executive leader.

His presentation was on the 2011 Future of Quality Study. The ASQ website summed it up well: "Change is constant. The rate of change is accelerating. Any organization not spending time looking into the future is likely to be taken by surprise when the future arrives. Anticipating the future of quality is a strategic advantage for ASQ. The studies comprise three major components.

(1) Identify the key forces that are most likely to shape the future of quality.
(2) Develop alternative scenarios describing how these forces might unfold.
(3) Determine implications for organizations, the quality field, and for quality professionals"

His presentation was very interesting and timely relative to the eight (8) factors impacting the "Future of Quality". Unusual was that there were four (4) new factors intermingled and not at the tail.

1. Global responsibility
2. Consumer awareness
3. Globalization
4. Increasing rate of change
5. Workforce of the future
6. Aging population
7. 21st century quality
8. Innovation

Kudos to Paul Borawski and his staff for an awesome study compilation and Jim's delivery tied to current events keep us engaged. He challenge us that now we have been exposed to these factors, our mission is to utilize it to shape and impact the future of quality. Detail information may be access by members using the following link: http://asq.org/about-asq/how-we-do/futures-study.html

Our next monthly membership meeting just happens to be on the innovation. Our Program Chair Elaine Adams must have ESP.
